Cross the border into M�xico from I-5 or I-805 at San Ysidro and get in the third lane from the left. Follow the signs that direct you to the Scenic Road to Rosarito and Ensenada. After making a cloverleaf style turn the road parallels the border for about two miles, then heads up and down a steep hill where you will be alerted to exit to the right. The sign for this road will be "Toll Road" or "Scenic Road." Two miles later you will pass through the toll gate. Tolls are less than $2.50; toll areas all have clean restrooms. Rosarito is located about eight miles down the toll road
There are four exits into Rosarito. The last exit is the easiest one to use for Popotla, it is located right before the second toll gate, 21 miles from the border. There is a sign there that reads, "La Paloma, Popotla, Calafia, Las Rocas." Exit to the right and then follow left (south) on the free road. Popotla is located at Kilometer 33, 200 yards after the huge white arch of Popotla.
Note: If you miss the last Rosarito exit for the free road (and it is easy to miss, so watch carefully), do not despair. At the second toll gate, there is a Pemex gas station and an AM-PM Mini Market. It looks identical to the ones in the U.S. You can drive through its parking lot (without having to pay another toll) and make a left turn onto the free road from there.
If you miss the exit and go through the second toll gate, drive to the next exit south. This exit will read, "Puerto Nuevo." Get off the toll road here. Take the free road heading north to Popotla .
Enter onto the Toll Road at the north end of Ensenada. Drive approximately 40 miles. You will see signs for Puerto Nuevo. Take the Puerto Nuevo exit and head north on the free road to Popotla .
If you miss Puerto Nuevo exit and find yourself at the second (Rosarito) tollbooth, cross through and follow the signs into Rosarito. Make a U-turn and head back south on the free road to Popotla .
